About Us

Northville High School Science Olympiad is open to any student attending NHS in grades 9-12.

Our Science Olympiad team functions much like a football or soccer team, requiring preparation, commitment, coaching and practice throughout the year.  Each school-based team is allowed to bring 15 students, who cross-train for a variety of events in their skill set, to any competition.  NHS has more than 30 members, allowing for a rich apprentice and mentoring system for all involved.

Science Olympiad competitions consist of a series of 23 team events, similar to a track meet.  By combining events from all disciplines, it encourages a wide cross-section of students to get involved.  Emphasis is placed on active, hands-on group participation.  Through Science Olympiad, students develop teamwork and cooperative learning strategies among themselves.  You can learn more about Science Olympiad or the current year's events by visiting the national website at soinc.org.

NHS relies heavily on adult volunteers during the year to help with coaching, supervising and administrative functions

We compete in Invitational competitions during January & February and in the Wayne-Monroe Regional tournament, usually held in late March.  Teams placing in the top twenty percent are invited to compete in the Michigan State Tournament in late April.

In 2018 NHS placed 1st at regionals, 1st at the Michigan state tournament, and 13th at the national tournment.

In 2017 NHS placed 1st at regionals, 1st at the Michigan state tournament, and 4th at the national tournment.

If you are interested in participating or volunteering please contact us and we will be happy to provide you with more information about how you can get involved.
